Cable System
Under the NMEA standard, manufacturers can use the cable/connector design of their choice as long as it conforms to certain requirements. The topology is a robust terminated backbone/spur design.

SeaTalk NG
Raymarine’s proprietary cable system for use in NMEA 2000 networks. The design provides two advantages. First, the connector collars are retained on the product which allows for a smaller cable diameter making installations easier. More importantly, the cable can include a sixth wire which allows backward compatibility with SeaTalk1 equipment. Products with SeaTalk NG connectors can be used on NMEA 2000 networks that use Devicenet cabling through simple connector adaptors and conversely equipment with Devicenet connectors can be used on NMEA 2000 networks that use SeaTalk NG cabling through simple connector adaptors.

Devicenet
Created for the factory automation industry, Devicenet has been approved by the NMEA for NMEA 2000 installations.

Specifications

Power Cable
A cable to connect a SeaTalk NG backbone to a 12V switched power supply. This provides power to the whole network and attached devices.
Only one power cable is used per network. When attached at the mid-point of a network, this cable powers each half of the network independently.

Backbone Cable
In a SeaTalk NG installation, a backbone cable runs through the length of the boat.
Individual devices connect to the backbone by spur cables that run to T-pieces on the backbone. The backbone carries both data and power to attached devices. The backbone should be sized so that it will run past every location where an NG or NMEA 2000 device might be installed.
Two backbone cable lengths can be joined together by a backbone extender.

Spur Cable
Individual devices connect to the backbone by spur cables that run to T-pieces on the backbone.

5-Way Connector Block
Used for connecting spurs to the backbone.

T-Piece Connector
Used for connecting white SeaTalk NG Spur Cables to Blue SeaTalk NG Backbone Cables.

Backbone Terminator
Go at each end of SeaTalk backbone, two are required per system.
